Backcountry.com was founded in 1996 by John Bresee and Jim Holland, a ski bum and an Olympic ski jumper, who have been friends since they were rowdy, trouble-making school boys in Vermont. The early days of Backcountry.com were humble, but its growth since has been meteoric. A small, non-descript garage in a one-stoplight Utah mountain town was the company’s first home. Now, the company employs 900 employees and is on track in 2009 to earn nearly $300 million in sales.
